Governments in Dialogue: Building the Future of the Cooperative Sector Together

Context

The International Year of Cooperatives, proclaimed by the United Nations for 2025, presents a unique opportunity to strengthen governmental dialogue on cooperative sector development. In this context, it is essential to promote public policies that support the growth of cooperatives as key drivers of economic and social development.

The International Cooperative Alliance (ICA) plays a central role in supporting and promoting cooperatives worldwide. However, government membership in this organization remains limited, despite the fact that their involvement is a strategic lever for structuring and ensuring the sustainability of the cooperative movement. This dialogue aims to mobilize public institutions and foster a coordinated governmental approach to enhance the impact of the cooperative model.

Objectives of the Dialogue

Encourage government membership in the ICA to benefit from an international network of best practices and expertise in cooperative development.
Develop tailored governmental strategies for promoting and strengthening cooperatives, integrating innovative and inclusive approaches.
Facilitate intergovernmental exchanges on policies and initiatives supporting cooperatives, highlighting successful case studies and common challenges.
Establish a sustainable consultation framework between governments and international organizations to ensure continuity in dialogue and the implementation of concrete recommendations.
