5th International Conference on Cooperatives (ICOOP2025)
The 5th International Conference on Cooperatives (ICOOP2025) is a global academic event organized by the Institute of Cooperatives and Bio-Enterprise Development (ICOPED), College of Economics and Management, University of the Philippines Los Baños. Held every three years since its inception in 2012, ICOOP has been a platform for scholars, policymakers, cooperative leaders, and development practitioners, to discuss the trends, prospects, and challenges in the cooperative sector, as well as for establishing linkages, networks, and strategic partnerships among stakeholders with a shared vision of building a better world with cooperatives.
ICOOP2025 coincides with the United Nations International Year of Cooperatives 2025 (IYC 2025), which highlights the significant contributions of cooperatives to sustainable development. With the overarching theme, “The Cooperative Advantage: Empowering Communities, Transforming Futures,” this year’s conference aims to showcase how cooperatives drive inclusive economic growth, social equity, and environmental sustainability amid a rapidly changing global landscape. It emphasizes cooperatives as a viable model and mechanism for enhancing resilience, inclusivity, and sustainability worldwide and highlights the unique role of cooperatives as powerful economic and social institutions that prioritize people over profit, ensuring that community needs and aspirations are met while fostering equitable growth.
Specifically, ICOOP2025 seeks to serve as a venue for fostering knowledge exchange, experience sharing, and dissemination of best practices and innovative solutions related to (1) creating economic, social, and environmental value of cooperatives for their members and communities; (2) adopting sustainable cooperative-led strategies for inclusive development and social transformation; and (3) recognizing and supporting the role of cooperatives in achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Through ICOOP2025, new directions for future research, education, extension, and policymaking will be defined to empower communities and transform futures through cooperatives.
ICOOP2025 will be held virtually via Zoom on November 20-21, 2025, enabling global participation while reducing the environmental footprint. It will feature keynote addresses, plenary sessions, a panel discussion, parallel sessions for paper and poster presentations, and virtual booths and exhibits, among others.
