The cooperatives and climate change
The changes caused by human activities have raised a global alarm for ocean preservation, involving species conservation and the protection of the delicate balance of ecological relationships, as well as the maintenance of cooperative practices that underpin ocean culture. Thus, when addressing the topic of cooperatives and the ocean, we highlight a series of important relationships, from traditional ways of life to the need for preservation to sustain marine life and those who depend on it for income, customs, and practices. In this context, the proposal for this initiative aims to raise awareness of these relationships, using practical and real-life examples, in order to broaden the awareness of ocean cooperatives and their relevance in social, environmental, and economic contexts. Through practical activities in schools, university extension spaces, and with the public, the CRECIN research and extension group will provide debates, lectures, group dynamics, and the application of teaching resources such as games and 3D models, highlighting the importance and relevance of cooperativism, also linking it to the emergencies resulting from climate change that are altering diverse realities across the globe.
